Many good karate-ka (student) quit at an early stage due to the repetitiveness of kihon, however, if you take onboard the attitude of the Japanese that a house can only be built on a solid foundation then kihon is extremely important.
The use of a mirror is important during practice of kihon, it helps improve incorrect technique.
Strong technique can only be developed through this repetitive type of training. It also trains the subconscious mind into performing the technique.
Correct Kokyu (breathing) is essential when carrying out any manoeuvre in karate and this can be perfected through your kihon training. Always remember to expel the air in the body when exerting yourself, especially through Kiai. Never carry out strenuous technique without taking good quantities of air.
Using a partner is sometimes valuable. Get them to stand in front of you and perform basic techniques. They can then tell you if the technique was on target. Be careful, karate techniques are dangerous, so make sure you avoid hitting your partner too hard and in vulnerable places.
Renraku Waza
A relentless onslaught of attacking techniques best describes Renraku-Waza.
Renraku-Waza is simply putting kihon techniques together. By putting strong, simple, basic techniques into a combination of strong basic movements, you create a more efficient attack with a greater chance of defeating your opponent. This is also true of defence and counter-attacks.
