Washinkai Karate Club Breaks a Barrier

biggestclub2Club Deportivo Washinkai, were invited to the 10th Gala of the Valencian Karate Federation on Saturday where Ray Sweeney 4th Dan, was acknowledged with the award for the biggest karate club in the whole of the Province of Alicante. There is only one Karate Federation in Spain and the Gala was a momentous event in the recognition of the Club, as it is held to celebrate the efforts of the top clubs and best sportsmen and instructors throughout the region of Valencia, Castellon and Alicante.

Washinkai President, Ray Sweeney, was once again reunited with Marceliano Gomez, the President of the Federation. Their first encounter was actually many years ago in the World Karate Championships in Madrid. Ray said, “I am very pleased with all that the club has achieved in such a short space of time here in Spain. We will be opening more new dojos in the coming months”. Instructors, 2nd Dan and Gold Medallists, Sarah Lakin and Geovanny Sanchez held a meeting with Francisco Gabriel Gonzalez Saiz, Vice-President of the Federation and a meeting between the four produced an agreement for Club Deportivo Washinkai to build even closer and stronger ties with the prestigious body.

The three instructors also met many other key players and old friends at the Gala including Andres Alarcon 6th Dan of Sant Joan d’ Alacant Karate Club and Francisco Gomez 9th Dan in Goshin. Washinkai Karate is the Municipal Karate School of Javea and Benitachell and is currently offering free trials for new students and beginners for their Javea Summer Course.
