Dylan Broadhead - Washinkai Junior Black BeltDylan Broadhead of Laude Lady Elizabeth School became the youngest ever student to join the growing list of Washinkai Karate Junior Black Belts last week.
Dylan, just 10 years old completed his "Shodan Kohai" or Junior Black Belt and has worked diligently for over 3 years, training up to four times per week with his instructor, British Traditional Karate National Champion Sarah Lakin.

His grading consisted of a range of strenuous combinations of kicks and punches, free fighting, kata (or forms) and a series of written questions to test his knowledge of the theory and history of karate. The tests were carried out by Ray Sweeney 4th Dan and "Master of Karate" from the Valencian Karate Federation.

The Junior Programme is unique to Washinkai Karate and is designed specifically so that children between 5 and 12 years old don't have to wait so long to become proficient and can have fun, yet learn about important values such as leadership, respect and responsibility whilst building their self-esteem and confidence.
Students go on to study the adult syllabus which will see them gain their full Black Belt at a minimum age of 16.

Sarah Lakin, 2nd Dan, said, "Dylan has been very successful in competitions, winning many trophies both in Spain and in the UK. He has worked so hard to get to this level and I am very proud of him."
