kyle-charlie-ray-sarahKyle Cochrane of Colegio el Arenal in Javea and Charlie Macwhinnie of Colegio Alfa y Omega in Denia, both only 11 years old are the first ever “Shodan Kohai” or Junior Black Belts in Spain. To achieve this level, Charlie and Kyle have worked diligently for over 3 years training up to four times per week with the instructors of Club Deportivo Washinkai in Javea, Benitachell and Lliber.

The gradings were carried out by Ray Sweeney 4th Dan and “Master of Karate” with the Valencian Karate Federation.

The Junior Programme is exclusive to Washinkai Karate and is appreciated by the parents as much as the kids. Children between 5 and 12 years old learn important principles such as respect, self-discipline, self-control, self-esteem and concentration whilst it still remains interesting, fun and exciting for them. The youngsters can also rise up the belts more rapidly and not have to wait many years between each belt.

Sarah Lakin and Geovanny Sanchez 2nd Dans and instructors of Washinkai karate said, “We feel very proud of them. Kyle and Charlie are the first students on this new Junior Programme to have achieved Black Belt. Now they have a solid base to help them start the hard work of the adult syllabus.”
