What is the Disciplinary Procedure for?
Each karate ka, whoever they may be, has responsibilities to others, both in and out of the dojo. These include:
- To control their techniques;
- To behave with respect to others;
- Not to misuse their skills;
- As a senior, particularly as an instructor, to assist junior grades, and on a personal level to be past criticism concerning any behaviour that may affect their position in the dojo.
These are only some of the responsibilities.
If a karate ka fails to keep up to those responsibilities, he may become a hazard to others and bring the BTKA and karate in general into disrepute.
The BTKA has a full procedure to investigate into any complaint made against any karate ka licensed by the BTKA, and to take appropriate action upon reaching a conclusion.
For what might disciplinary action be taken?
Disciplinary proceedings can be taken against anyone who fails to meet the standards expected of them.
Persistent or wilful uncontrolled techniques may justify action, or breach of competition rules.
Disciplinary proceedings are not purely restricted to activities during training. For example, conviction of a criminal offence involving violence or dishonesty would almost always be subject to disciplinary action.
What can happen in Disciplinary proceedings?
The Disciplinary Committee has a wide range of powers, from complete expulsion and reporting to the governing body, to the attachment of conditions on the karate ka's licence which must be complied with for continued membership of the BTKA.
