Approved fist pads must be worn in free fighting sessions. The specification for these is laid down by World Karate Federation rules.
The type of gloves used in full‑contact karate, with thick padding, are considered dangerous and are thus not permitted.
Soft shin pads may be worn at the student's discretion, as may gum shields and groin boxes.
